Tom Daley tells Sports Mole that he was "really chuffed" to defend his 10m platform title at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England diver Tom Daley has said that he is "really chuffed" to have won his third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Daley won 10m gold for the second straight Commonwealths by a huge margin of victory, 82.85 points, as none of his competitiors mounted a serious charge.

"Yeah I'm really chuffed," he told Sports Mole soon after collecting his gold medal at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

"To go to the last round of a dive and know that you don't even need to do it to get a medal, it's been a very long season. It's been very tiring for all the athletes but it's about who could hold it together in their heads and keep going, keep going through."

Daley admitted to us after this morning's disastrous back two-and-a-half somersault, two-and-a-half twist dive - the twister - that he was considering removing it from his 10m routine.

However, he landed it better tonight, but still far from perfect with a score of 64.80.

"My twister was better, it still could have been a lot better," he added. "I was a little bit slow with my hands but all my other dives are starting to come together now and yeah, I'm just happy to finally have something to show for it all."

As well as Daley's twister going wrong this morning, his first dive was also low-scoring and he said that it can be tough to dive better earlier in the day.

"It's always tough to get going in the mornings so it was good to be able to go home, have my nap, although it was a little bit restless because I kept waking up with my heart beating like a million miles an hour thinking about tonight," he said.

"It was good to be able to go rest up, come back and get ready for a final. It's very different diving in a prelim than it is to step it up for a final."

Tonight's victory gave Daley his second medal of the Games after he clinched silver, but failed to retain the 10m synchro alongside James Denny last night.
