Tom Daley misses out on a bronze medal after a slip-up in the fourth round at the diving World Cup.

A misfire in the fourth round has seen British diver Tom Daley miss out on a podium finish at the FINA World Cup in Shanghai.

The 20-year-old had been on course for bronze in the men's 10m platform final but a severe over-rotation on his most ambitious dive - the forward 4-1/2 somersault tuck - earned him a score of just 44.40, sending him plummeting down the leaderboard.

Solid performances in the remaining two rounds saw Daley climb his way back to a fourth-placed finish with a total of 470.35, but his earlier mistake allowed Mexican Ivan Garcia to capitalise and take the bronze.

As expected, Chinese powerhouses Yang Jian and Qiu Bo took the top two spots, posting totals of 543.85 and 528.50 for gold and silver respectively.

The result still leaves Daley, who picked up gold at the 2010 Commonwealths, as the top-ranked athlete heading into this year's Games.
