Great Britain stole the show on the first day of the World Aquatics Championships in Doha with a gold and silver in the opening diving competitions.

The four-strong team of Tom Daley, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, Daniel Goodfellow and Scarlett Mew Jensen triumphed in the mixed 3m and 10m final with a total of 421.65 points, finishing almost nine clear of silver medallists Mexico.

Australia clinched the final place on the podium with a total score of 385.35 in a competition where Daley made his long-awaited international comeback, having returned to national action at the British National Diving Cup in December.

As well as taking home the team crown, Great Britain won their first individual medal of the championships in the women's 1m springboard, as Grace Reid finished in the runners-up spot with a score of 257.25 after five dives.

The 27-year-old - who won the 1m springboard title at the 2018 Commonwealth Games - was outside the medals until her final dive, where several 7.5s saw her top the fifth-round rankings with 58.50 to force her way into second place.

Reid - whose silver marked her first-ever individual World Championships medal - finished 3.25 points behind Australian champion Alysha Koloi, while Egypt's bronze medallist Maha Eissa was just one tenth behind the Briton with 257.15. body check tags ::
