Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen capitalise on a huge Australian error to pick up Great Britain's historic first medal of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen have secured the first medal for Great Britain at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The pair earned bronze in the women's synchronised 3m springboard final, capitalising on a catastrophic error from the Australians in the final round to pinch a spot on the podium.

Harper and Mew Jensen produced solid dives throughout the event, but fell behind with their third dive after losing points on execution.

Their final dive put them into the medal positions, but Australian duo Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith were heavily fancied to usurp them in third place - and possibly challenge USA for silver - heading into their final dive.

However, a disastrous final dive from Smith ultimately saw Australia throw their chances of a medal away, eventually finishing fifth behind Italy in fourth.

Gold for China, silver for USA, history for Great Britain

China took gold to make it two from two at the Games so far, having also picked up the first gold of Paris in the mixed team 10m air rifle earlier in the day.

USA pair Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook picked up the silver for their country's first medal of the Games too.

Britain's bronze was their first on the opening day of an Olympic Games since Athens 20 years ago, and their first medal in women's diving for 64 years.

It was also the first ever medal for Great Britain in the women's synchronised 3m springboard event. body check tags ::
