Channel 4 reportedly emerges as the surprise winner of the rights to broadcast England's Nations League group games this year.

Channel 4 has reportedly emerged as the surprise winner of the rights to England's group games of the Nations League.

The Three Lions will play six games against Italy, Germany and Hungary in June and September as part of their preparations for this year's World Cup in Qatar in November.

According to the Daily Mail, all of the matches will be shown on free-to-air TV as Channel 4 has succeeded with its "unlikely" bid for the package.

Sky Sports has aired the Nations League in the UK since the competition began in 2018-19 and it is expected - but not yet confirmed - that the broadcaster will continue to screen all games not involving England.

An official announcement is expected from UEFA in the coming days.
