Sky has axed continuity announcers on many of its channels, resulting in the loss of four full-time staff and 12 regular freelancers.

The broadcaster dropped most of its continuity announcements - trailing programmes about to start or coming up next - from Sky Atlantic a few years ago and has now followed suit on Sky Max, Sky Nature, Sky Sci-Fi, Sky Comedy, as well as the portfolio of Sky Cinema channels.

Explaining the change, a spokesperson told Broadcast: "We're redirecting our efforts in continuity output to the channels, shows and on-demand content that make a difference to our viewers. This has resulted in a reduction of four permanent staff and the use of a smaller pool of freelancers.

"We will continue to offer continuity on channels that have high linear viewership such as Sky Arts, Sky Crime, Sky Mix, Sky Showcase, Sky Witness and Challenge to help viewers navigate through the linear schedule."

The broadcaster will also bring back continuity on channels such as Sky Atlantic around big premieres and finales of shows such as House of The Dragon. body check tags ::
