EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen has revealed that the soap's production team are still working on new material even though filming has been suspended.
The increasing severity of the coronavirus pandemic led to the BBC calling a halt to filming on all continuing dramas last week - and now the vast majority of the British public are confined to their homes as part of a UK-wide shutdown.
While it remains unclear exactly when EastEnders can start shooting new material, Sen has promised that the show's script team are using the time out productively.
"Thank for all your messages," he wrote on Twitter. "Just to let you know that after the news last week that we are postponing filming, we are all still working hard behind the scenes planning stories for when we return. #eastenders."
The BBC has cut the number of episodes shown a week from four down to just two in an effort to keep the long-running soap on air for as long as possible.
