Rita Simons is to make a surprise return to EastEnders as Roxy Mitchell for a series of special scenes in Thursday's episode.
The fan-favourite character was killed off along with her sister Ronnie (Samantha Womack) in a shock drowning plot on New Year's Day in 2017, leaving behind her daughter Amy (Ellie Dadd).
Over the last few months Amy has turned to self-harm while battling through mental health issues, and in Thursday's episode she will accompany members of her family, including dad Jack (Scott Maslen), to a group counselling session.
As the therapist encourages Amy to speak up about the loss of her mum, the youngster starts to zone out and Roxy appears as a figment of her imagination.
"I'm thrilled to welcome the fabulous Rita back to the iconic role of Roxy Mitchell for these special scenes," said EastEnders' executive producer Chris Clenshaw.
"Although the character was last seen on screen in January 2017, Roxy still remains a fan favourite. We know our audiences will be thrilled at her short return as Amy seeks some all-important answers from her mum at this point in the storyline."
EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
