Samantha Giles - aka Emmerdale favourite Bernice Blackstock - reportedly decides to leave the soap after 25 years.

Emmerdale star Samantha Giles has reportedly decided to leave her role as fan-favourite Bernice Blackstock after 25 years.

The character - half-sister of Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) - arrived in the Dales in 1998, staying until 2002 before making a brief return in 2004.

Giles then went on to join rival soap Hollyoaks from 2008 to 2010 but returned to the role of Bernice in 2012.

According to The Sun, she has now decided to leave for good however and will bow out later this year.

"Bernice Blackstock has been in and out of Emmerdale village more than they change the barrels at The Woolpack," a source told the newspaper.

"She's always welcomed back with open arms by ITV and fans alike, but it's now becoming a bit of a running joke.

"It wouldn't pay to bet on whether Samantha will one day be back, but for now she will leave the soap later this year."

Bernice is currently running the B&B with Bob (Tony Audenshaw) and has recently admitted to having an attraction to him.

Emmerdale continues weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
