Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander is reportedly in talks about representing the UK at the next Eurovision Song Contest.
The 2024 contest is being staged in Malmo, Sweden in May following Loreen's victory in Liverpool earlier this year - and once again the BBC will be making an internal decision on the UK representative.
Sam Ryder's unexpected second-place finish in 2022 was followed up this year with an underwhelming performance from Mae Muller, who finished 25th out of 26 acts.
According to The Sun, Alexander has emerged as the frontrunner to fly the British flag in Sweden and has teamed up with Dua Lipa's producer Danny L Harle to come up with an "upbeat" track.
A source told the newspaper: "It's a dream come true for Olly. Things aren't quite locked in but he is a favourite with bosses.
"Despite everyone loving Mae, it's no secret that everyone was disappointed with how things panned out.
"Olly has said for ages he wants to have a crack at it - and after teaming up with Danny for the song he thinks we have a great shot.
"He is aware people say that no established act in their right mind would go on the show due to the UK's track record but as far as he is concerned that's just snobbery."
The UK act is not expected to be officially confirmed until next spring. body check tags ::
