Kate Garraway: 'Derek has heart damage'

Kate Garraway reveals that her seriously ill husband has suffered heart damage in his battle with coronavirus.

Kate Garraway has revealed that her husband Derek Draper has suffered heart damage as part of his horrific battle with coronavirus.

Draper is approaching the five-month mark in intensive care and is now on a long road to recovery having overcome COVID-19.

Speaking on today's Good Morning Britain, Garraway expressed sympathy with actress Emma Samms, who is still feeling the impact of the virus six months after she caught it.

"The sentence 'we just don't know' is something I have a lot of experience in, dealing with the impact on Derek," she said.

"It's a real sentence from doctors because they just don't know.

"Every day more problems that Covid has are presenting themselves, which we just have to deal with. We know about [coronavirus causing] heart damage, Derek has had that as well."

Earlier this week Garraway's family marked Draper's 53rd birthday with him over FaceTime.
