Rachel Adedeji quits Hollyoaks amid racism row

Rachel Adedeji's exit from Hollyoaks is announced a week after she detailed alleged racism behind-the-scenes on the soap.

Rachel Adedeji has quit her role as Lisa Loveday on Hollyoaks after four years.

The news comes a week after the actress, 28, detailed alleged experiences of racism while working on the soap, prompting production company Lime Pictures to launch a full investigation.

According to The Sun, Adedeji made the decision to leave the show last year and already filmed her final scenes before production was shut down in March.

A spokeswoman told the newspaper: "Rachel made the decision to leave Hollyoaks to pursue other opportunities earlier last year which saddened us at Hollyoaks as she is one of the leading cast members in the show.

"However, the notice period did allow the writers time to give Lisa Loveday an extremely gripping exit storyline.

"Viewers will see this story play out later this year as her final scenes were filmed shortly before lockdown."

Earlier this week Channel 4 confirmed that Hollyoaks would return to filming next month, with the first post-lockdown episodes airing from September.
