The showrunner, series producer and script producer on Hollyoaks are all to leave the soap, it is confirmed.

Channel 4 has confirmed that the three most senior executives are to depart Hollyoaks amid low ratings.

The exodus is being led by showrunner Lucy Allan, who has been in post for two and a half years, with series producer Philip Dodds and script producer Josie Day also moving on.

The Sun alleges that the decision to shake up the soap's creative team came as producer Lime Pictures looked to arrest a decline in ratings and a string of uninspiring storylines.

A source told the newspaper: "The set is in chaos. Cast and crew were clearly unhappy with the way things are going. Morale never been this low.

"Ratings have plunged, storylines aren't working and things were just toxic on set so Lime Pictures had to do something.

"Everyone knows what they're making is unwatchable, but the three chiefs insisted on pushing their agenda.

"And blaming and sacking others when it went wrong. Actors were in open revolt."

Confirming her departure, Allan said: "I have loved my time as executive producer on Hollyoaks. It's one of the most exciting jobs in Soapland but after two and half years at the helm it's time to pass on the baton."

Hollyoaks continues weekdays on Channel 4 and E4.
