Love Island's Doctor Alex George has announced his split from girlfriend Amelia Bath after 18 months.

The 30-year-old has been a prominent figure during the coronavirus crisis, regularly providing his social media followers with updates from the frontline as he worked in A&E.

For the majority of lockdown George had been living separately from Bath in order to protect her from catching the killer disease, but just days after their reunion they have decided to break up.

"Guys just want to let you know, Amelia and I have decided to go our separate ways," George wrote on Instagram.

"As you know, we've been apart for most of lockdown which has been hard on us both and we both agree this is for the best.

"We will remain good friends and I have nothing but respect for Amelia. Thank you for the love and support always."

The pair had been together since December 2018.
