Doctor Alex George has announced that he is planning to leave his work as an A&E doctor next year in order to retrain as a GP.
The 30-year-old former Love Island contestant has been working in Lewisham's A&E department for the last five years and has gained a legion of social media followers this year through his coronavirus updates from the hospital front line.
George has now decided to make the sideways career switch into general practice and will sit an exam in January to kickstart the process.
"CAREER UPDATE: I am leaving A&E!" he wrote on Instagram. "I have had the most incredible five years in the Emergency Department but it's nearly time for me to move on.
"It won't be easy but next summer I will be starting a fresh chapter. I am embarking on a new career within the medical field and am excited to have you all on this journey with me."
Explaining further on his YouTube channel, he said: "I've ummed and ahed over this decision for about two years.
"It has been a difficult decision and it won't be easy to leave Lewisham. But I think GP training is the right route."
George is also planning to release a health-based book, Live Well Every Day, next May.
