Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to pass the $1 billion (£747m) mark in worldwide office receipts on Christmas Day.

The latest instalment of the MCU-Sony link-up - Tom Holland's third solo outing as the superhero - is an epic multiverse adventure featuring multiple guest stars.

Released just over a week ago, the film earned an impressive $587m (£443m) in its opening weekend - in itself enough to make it the highest-grossing release of either 2020 or 2021.

By end of business on Thursday that figure had grown to $876m (£654m) - and according to Variety, when Christmas Eve receipts are counted it is projected to hit the $1 billion milestone.

The figure would place No Way Home as the second highest-grossing Spider-Man film of all time and within a whisker of surpassing the $1.13 billion achieved by the previous movie, 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. body check tags ::
