Dave Benson Phillips for Celebrity MasterChef series 18© BBC

Dave Benson Phillips

Age: 58

Occupation: Former kids TV presenter

Why do the show?: "Mrs Phillips made me! She's a big fan of the show and she's always nagged for me to be on it. I never thought it would happen and I did harbour a secret longing to be on it but didn't tell anybody. So, you can imagine my surprise when I was called by the show. When I was called, they said 'Dave, what are you doing? Would you like to achieve a life's ambition?' and I thought, right, I'm going to go on MasterChef. So here I am, hoping to learn skills and make new friends. I'm just looking forward to being part of the MasterChef alumni."

Favourite dish to cook: "My favourite go-to dish is chicken. I'm always cooking chicken and pretty much all other meats: lamb, beef, a bit of pork every now and again and a few veggies to go with it."

Favourite dish to eat: "There is a kebab house near where I live, which does the best kebabs. I normally get a mixed grill from there because it lasts me about two and a half days. It's just got everything in there, so that would do for me."

Max George for Celebrity MasterChef series 18© BBC

Max George

Age: 34

Occupation: The Wanted singer

Why do the show?: "As I don't really cook that much, I wanted to just try something completely out of my comfort zone and learn how to cook. As I'm getting older, I'm starting to think I should do it more and I thought this would definitely be the place to get some decent tips!"

Favourite dish to cook: "I like making curries and a chilli con carne."

Favourite dish to eat: "Syrup Sponge with Custard – got to go sweet all the way."

Remi Burgz for Celebrity MasterChef series 18© BBC

Remi Burgz

Age: 30

Occupation: BBC 1Xtra DJ

Why do the show?: "It's just a great place to learn and I feel like everyone who takes part in the show leaves different to the way they entered. They've always learnt something new. So, I thought why not get stuck into it? I learn on the go and I'm a practical person, so I thought this is the best way for me to learn how to cook."

Favourite dish to cook: "Egg, anything with egg. Fried, sunny side up, scrambled. I wouldn't say I'm good at making an omelette. I always try, but just haven't got there yet."

Favourite dish to eat: "Salmon with a side of Salmon. If it comes with a cocktail to wash it all down, I'll have a Pina Colada please."

Shazia Mirza for Celebrity MasterChef series 18© BBC

Shazia Mirza

Age: 47

Occupation: Comedian

Why do the show?: "I'd always thought about doing it, but it looked so scary. Now I say, just do it! can make egg on toast, egg and chips, beans on toast, so I'll be alright."

Favourite dish to cook: "My favourite dish to cook at home is either Matar Paneer or Saag Paneer which is cottage cheese and peas or cottage cheese and spinach in a curry."

Favourite dish to eat: "Vegetable moussaka."

Terry Christian for Celebrity MasterChef series 18© BBC

Terry Christian

Age: 63

Occupation: Presenter

Why do the show?: "I've always fancied it. I've done Bake Off before and I'd never really done any baking. Some people prepare before and practice, which is cheating to me! Cooking is where it's at. I had to learn to cook because my mum's a terrible cook. We're Irish so everything's boiled and salty. I started making Vesta beef curries for me and my siblings when I was about 12 and that was the best thing we'd ever tasted. I'm here to just have a go!"

Favourite dish to cook: "Definitely a curry."

Favourite dish to eat: "Malaysian Laksa. I love it, it's got flavour and it's really spicy too. I like the coconut flavour and I'm really into spicy food and a lot more flavour than you'd get in an Irish stew."

Celebrity MasterChef continues Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
