Alec Baldwin issues a statement after he accidentally killed a crew member on the set of his film with a prop gun.

Alec Baldwin has issued a statement after a fatal accident on the set of his new movie Rust on Thursday.

The actor was shooting a scene which required his character to shoot a gun - but the prop gun he used, which he believed to be unloaded, fired either a bullet or shrapnel, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

Baldwin was interviewed by police in New Mexico and released without charge, although investigations into what happened remain ongoing.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, a devastated Baldwin wrote: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.

"My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."

Production on the film has been suspended indefinitely following the incident.
