Adele has described her decision to cancel her Las Vegas residency at the last minute as "very brave".
The 34-year-old was due to begin a three-month residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in January but pulled the plug just hours before the first gig, telling fans that the show was not ready.
The news sparked outrage from many fans, some of whom had already travelled from around the world in order to attend the first few shows, spending significant amounts on travel and accommodation.
"It was the worst moment in my career, by far," she recalled in a new interview with Elle. "I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating."
"There was just no soul in it," she continued. "The stage setup wasn't right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment."
Discussing the backlash, she added: "The first couple of months was really, really hard. I was embarrassed. But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don't think many people would have done what I did. I'm very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs."
The residency has now been rescheduled to start in November.
