Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis suggests that the festival could host a paid-for online event later this year.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has revealed that an alternative virtual festival may be a possibility this year.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that the festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to coronavirus, as mass gatherings are likely to remain impractical for some time.

In 2020 the BBC marked what would have been Glastonbury weekend by screening a series of archive performances, but Eavis has suggested that this year they could put on an event online for a fee.

"A lot of big artists have been in touch offering to perform for us at the farm, so we're doing everything we can to make that happen," she told The Guardian.

"We would love to build a show that can be watched at home by people all over the world, and of course it would be a useful way for us to make some very welcome income."

Meanwhile, Emily's father Michael Eavis has said that he is keen to hold an event in September to mark the 50th anniversary of the first festival.
