Little Richard dies, aged 87

Rock 'n' roll pioneer Little Richard dies at the age of 87, his family confirms.

Rock 'n' roll legend Little Richard has died at the age of 87, his family have confirmed.

In a career spanning seven decades, the pioneering popstar - known for his trademark squeal - had a string of hits including 'Tutti Frutti', 'Good Golly Miss Molly' and 'Long Tall Sally'.

Artists including The Beatles, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Prince and the Rolling Stones all cited Little Richard as an influence, while his songs were covered by the likes of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly.

The cause of Richard's death early on Saturday was not immediately clear, although he has suffered a number of health problems in recent years, including having a stroke and a heart attack.

Kelvin Holly, a long-time member of Richard's band, wrote on Instagram: "Rest in peace Richard. This one really stings. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of my bandmates and fans all over the world. Richard truly was the king!"
