ITV has been named the new UK broadcaster of The Oscars after long-term partner Sky chose not to renew the rights.

Sky had broadcast the prestigious ceremony on Sky Cinema every year since 2004 but opted not to sign a new deal ahead of the 2024 awards.

Now ITV has concluded what it describes as "a multi-year agreement" with AMPAS to show the ceremony live on ITV1 and ITVX from next year.

"We are thrilled to be able to exclusively bring the Oscars to film fans all across the UK, furthering and complementing our commitment to films across our network," said Darren Nartey, senior acquisitions manager at ITV.

"We already have a fantastic collection of over 250 feature films available on ITVX at any one time and are looking forward to sharing the movie-event of the year with our viewers."

AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer added: "We could not be happier to partner with ITV in bringing the Oscars to viewers throughout the UK.

"The Oscars is a celebration of global cinema - recognising films and film artists from around the world. ITV's support of our international awards show is a testament to its deep devotion to the movies."

Next year's Oscars take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. body check tags ::
