Broadcasting legend James Whale has revealed that he expects to be dead within a year.
The 72-year-old - one of the longest-serving radio hosts in the country - has been battling cancer since 2020, with the disease spreading to his brain, spine and lungs.
Now Whale has conceded that he is approaching "the end" of his treatment as his medication - including a new drugs trial - has stopped working effectively.
Joking at the TRIC Awards this week, he told reporters: "When I lose a lot more weight when I get really ill, I'll look fantastic.
"I've just come off all the steroids I was on, which made me look like a bloody balloon. I'm feeling better from that."
He continued: "The cancer gets into your head and sometimes you can't stand noise. At the moment, I have got cancer fatigue, which makes you very tired.
"Some days I might feel sorry for myself. I feel sorry for my wife really. It's more difficult for her."
Whale has continued working through his illness and is still hosting a Saturday night show on talkRADIO. body check tags ::
