RuPaul's Drag Race alumnus Laganja Estranja has come out as a trans woman in an emotional interview.
The 32-year-old appeared in the sixth series of the contest, finishing in eighth place, and became known for her "OKUURRRRRRR!!!" catchphrase and memorable fallout with her fellow contestants.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Laganja revealed that she came out to her close friends around six months ago after "comfortably, fully committing" to who she is.
"People think that when you're trans that you've wanted to be a girl your whole life; yes, that's partly true [for me], but it's also true that I've wanted to be male my whole life to fit into what society deems as normal," she said.
"But, that isn't my truth, and I'm daring to take this on. I tried to be male and be in-between and non-binary. The truth is I'm a feminine entity and I can live this life."
She added: "I'm so happy. I feel so beautiful and empowered, and, finally, I'm looking back at who I am in the mirror, and it's such an incredible feeling.
"If anyone is struggling with it, breathe and accept it, because once you do, it's incredibly empowering."
Laganja follows in the footsteps of other trans Drag Race stars to come out either before or after doing the show, including castmate Gia Gunn, Peppermint and Jiggly Caliente. body check tags ::
