Oprah Winfrey insists that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told "the truth" in their controversial interview with her.

Oprah Winfrey has insisted that her friend Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry told "the truth" in their high-profile TV interview earlier this year.

The couple made a series of claims about the Royal Family in the interview - including the very serious allegation that an unnamed senior member of the family had expressed "concerns" about the skin colour of their future children.

The broadcast caused shockwaves on both sides of the Atlantic, although seasoned interviewer Winfrey has now admitted that she was not expecting it to garner that much attention.

"I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have," she told TalkShopLive.

"Our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible."

Harry faced his family for the first time since the interview last weekend as Prince Philip was laid to rest, while pregnant Markle remained in LA on doctor's orders.
