BBC to air three Strictly specials during lockdown

The BBC announces three special Strictly Come Dancing episodes to air during the coronavirus lockdown.

The BBC has confirmed plans to air three new Strictly Come Dancing specials during the coronavirus lockdown.

Producers are said to be hopeful that this year's series can begin as planned in September and are considering a radical quarantine plan for the celebrity contestants.

In the meantime, the BBC will air three 'best-of' shows featuring memorable performances and highlights from the last 17 years.

The episodes will be presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman from their homes, with the four-strong judging panel - Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli - and other special guests appearing via webcam.

"Strictly Come Dancing has produced so many magical and memorable moments in the movie, musical and Blackpool weeks," said Kate Phillips, controller of BBC Entertainment. "The three special episodes will look back and celebrate these, bringing some much needed Strictly sparkle to the nation."

The rumoured celebrities for this year's show include RuPaul Charles, Catherine Tate and Michelle Keegan.
