Former Coronation Street star Shayne Ward is reportedly part of this year's Strictly Come Dancing lineup.

The actor, who rose to fame as the winner of the second series of The X Factor in 2005, played Aidan Connor on the soap between 2015 and 2018, earning acclaim for his character's exit storyline by suicide.

The 39-year-old has also had roles in the Brit flick The Ascent and Channel 5's The Good Ship Murder - and according to The Sun, he has now signed up for a turn on the Strictly dancefloor.

"Shayne is a previous winner of an audience-voted talent show so will have high hopes of doing it again. He is excited to begin training," a source told the newspaper.

"He has some dancing experience so could be a contender for the glitterball trophy. He also has a whopping fan base from his years as a Coronation Street hunk."

The rumoured lineup for the series - due to start on BBC One next month - is also rumoured to include former hockey star Sam Quek, football pundit Paul Merson, DIY SOS host Nick Knowles and Olympian Tom Dean.

The identity of the first celebrity in the lineup will be officially unveiled on Monday's edition of This Morning. body check tags ::
