Charlie Simpson is to return to The Masked Singer as a guest judge for the upcoming new series.

The Busted singer, 38, is the reigning champion of the show, having been crowned the winner under the guise of 'Rhino' earlier this year.

During the next series, which has already been filmed, regular judge Rita Ora was forced to miss three shows due to other commitments and guest judges were brought in to join Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan on the panel.

Olly Murs and Jennifer Saunders have previously been named as two of the guest judges, and now the third has been identified as Simpson.

"Skipping three out of eight episodes feels like a pretty big chunk so viewers are bound to miss Rita, she's such a fan fave," a source told The Sun.

"But shaking up the panel is also another fun way to keep the programme fresh.

"Jennifer brings a whole new energy, whilst Olly is of course such a safe hands when it comes to talent shows.

"It will be interesting to see what Charlie brings to the table."

The Masked Singer returns to ITV1 for a one-off Christmas special on Christmas Day, with the new series beginning on Saturday, December 30 at 7pm. body check tags ::
