Simon Cowell's close friend Sinitta has confirmed that plans are afoot for The X Factor to return in 2023.

The singing contest was canned by ITV in 2018 amid lacklustre ratings but a recent report suggested that Cowell has agreed a production deal for it to come back next year - although he has not yet agreed a deal for a broadcaster to show it.

Now Sinitta has revealed that Cowell is considering a revolutionary idea to broadcast the show online instead, opening up the process to a global audience.

"I think talent needs to be showcased, needs to be discovered. They need the help and it's a great platform if it can be done again in a modern way maybe online so that the world can join," she told the Daily Mail.

"I personally think online would be amazing. I think for it to be live streamed online to make it interactive and international would be incredible because that's the way the world is now, yeah."

Cowell has previously said that he is open to the idea of the show moving to a streaming service such as Netflix or Prime Video rather than airing on a traditional linear broadcaster.
