A peak of 4.4 million viewers tuned in to watch Marketa Vondrousova make Wimbledon history on Saturday afternoon, according to early ratings figures.
The Czech player defeated Ons Jabeur in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to become the first unseeded female player in the Open Era to win the prestigious tournament.
Pre-match coverage began on BBC One at 1.15pm, averaging 2.09m over 45 minutes, then the match itself drew an average of 3.7m between 2pm and 3.30pm.
The peak audience came as Vondrousova sealed the win at 3.27pm, with 4.41m viewers - a 51.1% share of the available TV audience - watching at that moment.
Overnight ratings figures do not take into account the number of viewers who may have been watching in pubs, bars or other non-household settings.
