Have I Got News for You co-creator Jimmy Mulville has said that he would like Angus Deayton to return to the show's hosting chair at some point in the future.
Deayton hosted the news quiz show from its inception in 1990 until 2002, when he was sacked following a drugs-and-prostitute scandal that saw him mercilessly mocked by captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop.
Since then the show has been hosted by a series of guest presenters, but Mulville thinks that the time has come for "redemption" for Deayton.
"I think it'd be very nice for him," he told Radio 4. "We're all a little older now. He's definitely served his time, and he was a very good host."
Despite the comments, Deayton remains adamant that he will not return, revealing last year that he had already turned down two approaches to guest host.
