Simon Cowell's spokesperson has branded claims that his upcoming Netflix talent show has been axed "entirely fabricated".

The music mogul - creator of The X Factor and the Got Talent franchises - has been working on a new show called Midas Touch which is aiming to assemble a new British boyband worthy of becoming 'the next One Direction'.

A report in today's Daily Mail alleged that the show has been dropped due to poor audition turnout, claiming instead that the project will be morphed into a documentary on Cowell's inability to form a new band.

A spokesperson for Cowell told The Sun: "This story, published in today's Mail on Sunday, is entirely fabricated.

"The journalist failed to adhere to basic journalism standards by neglecting to verify facts or seek comments from anyone involved.

"The claims made are false, and the quoted source appears to be completely invented.

"This project is primarily a search for a boyband, which is being documented.

"The article completely misrepresents how the music and documentary team views the audition process and the overall situation as far as the level of talent that the music team have found."

Auditions for Midas Touch continued as planned in London this weekend.
