Simon Cowell's new format Walk The Line is reportedly on the verge of being axed by ITV after just one series.

Simon Cowell's new music competition format Walk The Line is reportedly facing the axe after just one series.

The new show had been earmarked as a potential replacement for The X Factor, which was a bedrock of the ITV schedules for almost two decades but was dropped in 2019 amid dwindling ratings.

The first series was stripped over a week before Christmas but averaged just 2.36 million viewers across its six episodes, and according to the Daily Mail, ITV has decided not to recommission it.

A source told the newspaper: "After The X Factor ended, Walk The Line was the show Simon hoped would save him. Alas, that wasn't to be, and it won't be back."

ITV denied the report, however, with a spokesperson saying: "No decisions have been made on the future of the series at this point."

Cowell is currently working on the new series of Britain's Got Talent, which is due to return to ITV in April after the 2021 series was cancelled due to coronavirus.
