Sir David Attenborough will present a new natural history series based around Britain and Ireland.

Sir David Attenborough is to present a new natural history series centred around the wildlife of Britain and Ireland for BBC One, it has been announced.

Wild Isles will see the 96-year-old guide viewers around the varied habitats of the British Isles, from woodlands and grasslands to freshwater and marine life.

"In my long lifetime, I have travelled to almost every corner of our planet," said Attenborough.

"I can assure you that in the British Isles, as well as astonishing scenery there are extraordinary animal dramas and wildlife spectacles to match anything I have seen on my global travels."

Exec producer Alastair Fothergill added: "I have always wanted to make a landmark series that really does justice to our own extraordinary wildlife.

"I am sure people will be amazed at what is happening right on their own doorstep."

The show, which runs to five one-hour episodes, has been shot in 4K quality over a three-year period.
