Sky cuts remarks from host John Oliver relating to The Queen from the latest episode of Last Week Tonight.

Sky decided to remove remarks about The Queen by host John Oliver from the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, it has emerged.

The satirical news show airs on HBO in the US on Sunday nights and is shown in the UK on Sky Comedy the following night.

In the episode which aired this Monday - the first since the death of The Queen on September 8 - Sky removed two segments in which the British comedian referenced the monarch.

In the first, he mocked companies such as Dominos Pizza for posting tributes, adding: "Obviously, we have to start with the UK, which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes. It is a big moment this week and for some reason absolutely everyone felt they had to wade in on."

Minutes later, after criticising new Prime Minister Liz Truss for defending businesses making large profits, he remarked: "The nicest thing the Queen of England ever did for anyone was die the week that woman became Prime Minister. Because for at least a week, she's not going to be getting justifiably destroyed for answers like that."

Sky previously cut jokes from the show following the death of Prince Philip in 2021.
