Romania's Ana Maria Branza has revealed her delight with her "historic" gold medal triumph in the final of the individual epee at the European Games.
The 30-year-old overcame Yana Zvereva of the Russian Federation 15-11 in the final of the event at Crystal Hall to clinch her nation's first gold medal of the Games.
She told reporters: "It has been a long day and I have had some great matches. This is historic for me because my name with be there as champion for years and years. It was tough but it was my day today.
"I came here just wanting to enjoy my fencing. I felt relaxed and cool. Sometimes people tell me to be more serious when I am fencing but I'm like that.
"At the start of the day I just wanted to get on the podium but from the last four, it is a new competition. I felt relaxed at the end. I always feel relaxed under pressure."
Romania have won nine medals in Baku.
