Adam Rooney scores a hat-trick in the second half to fire Scottish League Cup holders Aberdeen to a 4-0 win over Livingston, while Rangers, St Johnstone, Hiberian and Partick Thistle also advance.

Reigning Scottish League Cup holders Aberdeen booked their place in the fourth round of the competition as Adam Rooney scored a hat-trick to fire them to a 4-0 win over Livingston.

Ash Taylor got the Dons off to a flying start when he found the net in the fifth minute. Rooney scored the first of his goals 15 minutes into the second half and notched a second in the 74th minute.

The striker rounded off the win with his third of the night in the 87th minute to dispatch the visitors in style.

Rangers came from behind to defeat Falkirk 3-1 in their clash at The Falkirk Stadium to advance in the competition.

The home side had taken an early lead through Rory Loy, but Ally McCoist's side were level within two minutes when Owain Tudur Jones put the ball through his own net.

In the second half, Rangers took control of the game as Dean Shiels fired them ahead and they made sure of their place in the next round when Ian Black netted in stoppage time.

Hibernian secured their place in the next round despite being reduced to 10 men when Dylan McGeouch was sent off in their 2-0 victory over Ross County.

Two goals in the first half from Dominique Malonga were enough to fire Alan Stubbs's men through to the fourth round.

St Johnstone defeated the 10 men of Kilmarnock 1-0 to advance as Brian Graham scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute.

Alexei Eremenko was given a straight red card for Allan Johnston's side at Rugby Park as their hopes of a cup run were dashed.

Partick Thistle needed extra-time to seal their place in the fourth round as they defeated St Mirren 1-0 in their third-round clash.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the normal time, but in the 100th minute Nathan Eccleston finally found the net to fire his side through.
