Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership fixture between Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical, including team news and predicted lineups.
Sports Mole

Aberdeen are scheduled to face Hamilton Academical on Wednesday evening after seeing their previous game postponed due to two positive coronavirus cases.

Hamilton are due to make the trip to Pittodrie having began the new Scottish Premiership campaign with back-to-back defeats.

Match preview

After watching his players under-perform against Rangers on the opening day of the season, the last thing that Derek McInnes would have wanted was Aberdeen's schedule being interrupted because of coronavirus issues.

With eight of his players needing to self-isolate after two positive tests, the SFA made the decision to postpone last Saturday's fixture with St Johnstone.

Despite having to cope with a depleted squad, it appears likely that the meeting with Hamilton will go ahead as scheduled, followed by a meeting with Celtic three days later.

Although the eight players in question have publicly apologised, McInnes is left with the difficult task of trying to ensure that the club are not still on zero points by the end of the week.

While that should only motivate his players heading into this game, Hamilton will also view this encounter as a chance to make some headway up the standings.

Despite a heavy defeat at Celtic on the opening day of the season being largely expected, there was disappointment after Saturday's home setback against Ross County.

Brian Rice spoke confidently ahead of the meeting with Celtic, but the Hamilton boss was less optimistic when assessing the performance of his players at the weekend.

The Accies have only troubled the scoresheet courtesy of an own goal, a return which will need to improve sooner rather than later if they are to move off the bottom of the table.

Team News

With five of the last starting lineup remaining in self-isolation and Andrew Considine serving a ban, McInnes must change over half of his side.

Tommie Hoban and Shay Logan could be handed a start in defence, while youngster Dean Campbell may come into the centre of midfield.

The front three could consist of Niall McGinn, Ryan Hedges and Ryan Edmondson.

Rice has already used 19 players across the opening two matches, leaving it likely that alterations will be made to his starting lineup.

Charlie Trafford and David Templeton are both pushing for appearances in the first XI.

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Hernandez, Taylor, Hoban, Logan; Ferguson, Campbell, Ojo; McGinn, Edmondson, Hedges

Hamilton Academical possible starting lineup:
Fulton; Odoffin, Fjortoft, Want, McMann; L.Smith, Callachan, Martin, Trafford; Templeton; Moyo

We say: Aberdeen 0-0 Hamilton Academical

With eight first-team players missing, it is difficult to back Aberdeen to prevail with any level of certainty. At a time when Hamilton are facing their own struggles on the pitch, do not be surprised if this contest ends in a goalless draw.
