The Football League charges AFC Wimbledon for fielding an ineligible player last month.

The Football League has charged AFC Wimbledon for fielding an ineligible player last month.

The charge relates to the appearance of Jake Nicholson on March 22 in a League Two game against Cheltenham Town.

A former Tottenham Hotspur trainee, 21-year-old Nicholson made his one and only appearance for Wimbledon against Cheltenham and scored their second goal in a 4-3 victory.

The Dons now face a possible points deduction from the Football League, who said in a statement on their website that "the matter will be heard by a Football Disciplinary Commission on April 28".

A statement on Wimbledon's website said that they would be making no comment at this time, adding: "As soon as the outcome of the hearing has been determined we will publish the background to this charge."

Neal Ardley's club currently lie 14th in the table, nine points clear of the relegation zone.
