AJ Auxerre are without a win in eight league games following their goalless draw with AS Saint-Étienne at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps.
The result consigns them to 19th place in Ligue 1, with a daunting trip to league champions Lille coming up next week.
Saint-Étienne, who could have gone level on points with Lille in third, also missed the chance to stretch their lead over fifth-placed Marseille to six points.
Les Verts host Evian TG at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard next week.
