Ajax have claimed a hard-fought but ultimately straightforward 2-0 win at NEC in Sunday's Eredivisie clash at the Stadion de Goffert.
The first chance for the visitors fell in the fourth minute when Jairo Riedewald played Davy Klaassen in on goal, but goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson was swift off his line to save.
Ajax continued to push forward when Milik sprung the offside trap 18 minutes in and bore down on goal, but once again, the opposition stopper was able to block the resulting shot.
The away side did eventually succeed in breaking the deadlock three minutes after the restart, courtesy of Lasse Schone's probing pass to Milik, which was duly tucked home past Halldorsson.
NEC then found themselves architects of their own downfall when, four minutes from time, Daley Sinkgraven's cross was bundled by Rens van Eijden into his own net.
