Stevan Jovetic scores twice as Monaco beat strugglers Angers to move into second place in the Ligue 1 standings.

Monaco have climbed up to second place in the Ligue 1 standings courtesy of a resounding 4-0 win over Angers at the Stade Raymond Kopa this evening.

The defending champions made the most of Marseille's slip-up at St-Etienne on Friday by easing to victory against their lowly opponents.

Stevan Jovetic was twice on target for Monaco, finding the net either side of an early Romain Thomas own goal and Andrea Raggi's close-range finish to round off the scoring.

Monaco came close to an early breakthrough when Youri Tielemans let fly and only marginally missed the opposition target, though the visitors did not have to wait much longer for their opener to arrive.

A cross into the box was inadvertently steered goalwards by Romain Thomas and keeper Ludovic Butelle could only help the ball into the air, before desperately attempting and failing to stop it from closing over the line.

Jovetic was unable to make the most of one chance but took the next one, as he delicately dinked the ball over an outrushing Butelle to double his side's advantage.

The third goal of the evening would arrive after the hour mark, with Jovetic again keeping his cool to convert after a long ball from Fabinho to keep Monaco's unbeaten run - now spanning 10 games - intact.

Raggi then converted goal number four at the back post when picked out by a delightful Tielemans delivery, giving Leonardo Jardim's men a comfortable victory.

ANGERS (4-3-3): Butelle; Bamba, Thomas, Traore, Andreu; Mangani, Santamaria, Oniangue (Toure 85'); Capelle (Adelaide 72'), Ekambi, Fulgini (Ketkeophomphone 63')
