Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Arsenal on Tuesday, September 8.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Arsenal eye possible reinforcements.

The Gunners spent more than many expected last summer - most notably their club-record purchase of Nicolas Pepe - but were more reserved in January as they focused on bolstering their defensive options.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings at the Emirates Stadium.

Tuesday morning's Arsenal transfer talk news roundup:

Arsenal 'join Manchester United, Liverpool in Nuno Mendes race'

Arsenal are reportedly the latest Premier League club to register an interest in Sporting Lisbon youngster Nuno Mendes.

The recently-turned 18-year-old has already been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool after making nine top-flight appearances for Sporting last season.

Predominantly used as a left wing-back, Mendes is said to have also caught the eye of AC Milan, who are rumoured to have had a £13.5m bid rejected earlier this summer.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports that Arsenal are now ready to make an approach for the Sporting academy player, but they may have to pay around £40m for his services.

Mendes recently signed a five-year deal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and the Primeira Liga outfit are under no pressure to sell.

Arsenal make U-turn on Rob Holding future?

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to keep Rob Holding at the Emirates Stadium for the 2020-21 campaign.

A number of Gunners defenders are understood to be at risk of being offloaded by the North London outfit as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season, with the likes of Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi both expected to leave.

With Arsenal having recently secured the signature of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille, Holding is another centre-back who has seen his future called into question on several occasions.

Leeds United and Newcastle United are both believed to hold an interest in the Englishman, but according to Sky Sports News, a transfer to the North East is now dead in the water.

The report suggests that Holding was close to joining Newcastle on loan for the 2020-21 campaign, but Arsenal are now reluctant to let the 24-year-old leave and want to keep him around at the Emirates.

Holding made just 18 appearances across all competitions during a turbulent 2019-20 campaign, and the former Bolton Wanderers man has just under three years left to run on his current deal with the Gunners.
