Paul Merson
Paul Merson's best Arsenal years arguably came before the advent of the Premier League, with the mercurial attacker helping the club to the First Division titles in 1989 and 1991.
Personal demons affected him during the early years of the Premier League, but he was still influential as Arsenal won the FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993, scoring in the final of the latter against Sheffield Wednesday.
Merson went on to add the Cup Winners' Cup to his trophy haul the following season, but he left less than a year after Arsene Wenger's arrival at the club and missed out on the Gunners' Premier League titles as a result.
In all, Merson made 327 league appearances for Arsenal, scoring 78 goals, but only 160 of those outings came in the Premier League before his surprise switch to relegated Middlesbrough in 1997.
