The Story of Arsenal Football Club

Since the formation of Arsenal in 1886, the club has striven to foster a sense of pride supported by an innovative desire to be at the forefront of sporting developments. The club was born when exiled Scotsman David Danskin decided to create a football team. It was with his munitions worker colleagues at Woolwich Arsenal.

Danskin believed in the pride and unity football can create together with its ability to contribute largely to local communities. Today, those values stand as true for the club as they did back then. Arsenal's early history was followed by an essential decision to move from Woolwich to the more accessible North London in 1913.

The action was driven by an understanding of the power that football has to interest and bring people together. This has seen the club flourish into a global force loved by millions across the world. Throughout the years, the affection felt for the Club has grown. All thanks to the fact that it has always stood on its own two feet by doing things 'The Arsenal Way'.

Herbert Chapman, the 'Great Innovator', managed Arsenal Football Club between 1925 and 1934. It wasn't just the trophies his teams won - he also pushed the boundaries, looking for new tactics to enhance performance and the style in which they achieved their objectives.

Chapman came up with numbers on the back of football shirts and the white sleeves worn by Arsenal players. He instructed to remove 'The' from Arsenal's name. That would then appear first alphabetically in fixture lists. Gradually, he turned the Gunners into England's most successful club by using a new 'WM' formation that transformed the game.

Chapman's transformational tactic was sustained by Arsene Wenger who brought new ideas to bear on the growth and preparation of players. His combination of young talent and experienced internationals has made Arsenal the most beautiful passing team in the country, and it is a style to which the club will likely remain true.

In keeping with its aspiration to move forward, improvement has always been relentless off the pitch. That was even when the club moved from Highbury to the remarkable 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium in 2006. It was a phenomenal but vital task as the club looked to form a convincing, successful and workable platform for the future.

In 2003, Arsène Wenger said he wanted his team to go through a season undefeated. He was roundly mocked for giving such a statement but several months later, the Arsenal manager guided his team to footballing immortality. The Gunners' 2003-2004 campaign was astonishing; he did the impossible and made Arsenal the scariest team in Europe.

Whether you are a fan of Arsenal or not, the club has brought happiness to many people. It is a football club where many youngsters aspire to succeed. After all, who wouldn't want to play on their sophisticated football pitch? Be it real or virtual, football is a sport for everyone!
