Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is reportedly set to spend a couple of months on the sidelines with a quadriceps injury.

The 22-year-old is now aiming to reignite his Gunners career after spending the 2021-22 season on loan at Feyenoord and was on the bench in Friday's Premier League opener with Crystal Palace.

Nelson's future has been up in the air for the past couple of months, with the Englishman behind the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Fabio Vieira in the pecking order.

Nelson helped Feyenoord reach the final of the Europa Conference League last term and registered four goals and seven assists from 32 appearances for the club in total.

However, the attacker's hopes of returning to form in North London have now taken a bitter blow, with journalist James Benge claiming that he will spend a "couple of months" out injured.

Earlier on Friday, Nelson had posted an Instagram story which seemed to hint at a fresh injury, with a training picture accompanied by the caption "back soon" alongside a blue butterfly and prayer emoji.

The former England Under-21 international has amassed four goals and four assists in 48 outings for the Gunners in all competitions since coming through the club's youth ranks.

However, Nelson - who has also been loaned out to Hoffenheim during his time with the Gunners - has already missed a further 25 matches through various niggling injury problems.

Nelson was involved in pre-season under Mikel Arteta as he seeks to force his way back into the club's first-team plans, but it remains to be seen what his latest injury means for his future.

Arsenal are otherwise set to be working with a fully-fit squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Leicester City after Arteta was handed a triple injury boost over the past week.

Kieran Tierney was fit enough for a place on the bench at Selhurst Park, while Takehiro Tomiyasu played 45 minutes for the Under-21s in their 3-1 win over Manchester United.

Smith Rowe and Vieira have both been pictured in training this week, with the former battling back from a groin injury while Vieira returns from an ankle injury.

The Portuguese playmaker is still waiting for his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt after struggling with the issue during pre-season as well, but he could very well make his debut this weekend. body check tags ::
