Arsene Wenger backs stricken Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to "come back stronger" from his latest injury setback.

Arsene Wenger has backed Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere to "come back stronger" after his three-month layoff with an ankle injury.

The in-form midfielder fell injured in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and has subsequently been ruled out until February.

The 22-year-old has a history of ankle injuries and has missed more games for the Gunners than he has played since bursting onto the scene in 2010.

However, Wenger was quick to play down fears over his long-term fitness on Friday, and says that Wilshere will be more robust against similar problems in the future.

"Jack always came out stronger and, when I spoke with him, the final sprint of the season is already in his mind and he wants to come back stronger," he told Sky Sports News.

The England ace has made 14 appearances for the North London side this season.
