Ashley Cole explains Arsenal 'Invincibles' interview refusal

Former Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole takes to Twitter to reveal why he does not feature in a book about the club's unbeaten 2003-04 Premier League season.

Ashley Cole has revealed that he turned down the chance to feature in a book about Arsenal's unbeaten 2003-04 Premier League campaign because he did not want to upset the club's supporters.

The left-back, who rose through the ranks of the North London club, missed just six games as the Gunners went the entire season without suffering a defeat.

However, despite being a favourite among the fans, his move to rivals Chelsea in 2006 soured the relationship, with the former England international roundly jeered whenever he returned to the Emirates Stadium.

The publication, which was released last year and written by journalist Amy Lawrence, looks back on that memorable season and includes contributions from the likes of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, but not Cole.

Taking to Twitter this afternoon, the 34-year-old, who is now with Italian side Roma, admitted that he did not want to further incur the wrath of the Arsenal faithful by sharing his memories of that era.

"People asking why I'm not in the Invincibles book. I thought it would be for the best. I didn't think fans would want it," he tweeted.

"But I will never forget my times at arsenal and the amazing achievements I accomplished there with great people."

During his time with Arsenal, Cole won two Premier League titles and the FA Cup three times.
