Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have tested positive for coronavirus as the pandemic continues to strike the sporting world.
Arsenal confirmed on Thursday evening their Spanish head coach had contracted the virus and the entire Gunners first-team squad would be placed into self-isolation. Brighton confirmed soon afterwards this weekend's fixture against Arsenal at the Amex Stadium had been postponed.
And in the early hours of Friday, Chelsea said the full men's team squad, coaching staff and a number of backroom staff would self-isolate after Hudson-Odoi returned a positive test. The club are due to face Aston Villa this weekend.
Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert has apologised for his behaviour after learning he has tested positive for the virus. Gobert had touched reporters' equipment as he joked that he was not scared to catch Covid-19.
Gobert wrote: "The first and most important thing is I would like to publicly apologise to the people I may have endangered. At the time, I had no idea I was even infected. I was careless and make no excuse."
In tennis the ATP and WTA Tours have both suspended all their professional tournaments until mid-April. In golf, the ANA Inspiration, the first women's major of the year, is among five women's tournaments to be cancelled.
The Great Britain men's and women's hockey teams will not be travelling to South Africa for a warm-weather training camp to prepare for the Olympics next week.
And the one-day international series between Australia and New Zealand will be played behind closed doors in Sydney and Hobart, Cricket Australia said.
The International Olympic Committee, however, said it remains "fully committed" to holding the Tokyo 2020 Games on schedule, starting on July 24.
Other positive tests for coronavirus include former Southampton forward Manolo Gabbiadini and Colombian cyclist Fernando Gaviria.
