Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has insisted that German playmaker Mesut Ozil is not good enough to wear the captain's armband at Arsenal.
The 29-year-old has scored 27 goals in 144 appearances since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013.
However, Hoeness believes that Ozil has not performed well at the London club and should not have been selected for Germany's World Cup squad in this summer's tournament in Russia.
"I've been watching the player for a long time and he's a well-marketed product whose image is a lot better than he is, which is the only big blame for me," he told Sky Sports Germany.
"Had [Germany coach Joachim] Low gone to Arsenal more often in London and looked at him properly, he probably would not have taken him for sporting reasons.
"It is a miracle that he is now captain at Arsenal."
Ozil announced his retirement from international football after coming under criticism from the German press following Germany's early exit from the World Cup.
